We are delighted to welcome you to the 1st Al Ain Heart Failure Forum, a new platform dedicated to advancing knowledge, collaboration, and clinical excellence in the field of heart failure and cardiovascular medicine.

This inaugural edition marks an important step toward creating a forum where regional and international experts can come together to share insights, discuss emerging evidence, and explore practical approaches that enhance patient care. The programme will feature a distinguished faculty and a carefully curated series of sessions covering key developments in heart failure diagnosis, treatment strategies, and multidisciplinary care. Mohamed El-Harari, MRCP, FRCP (UK), is a Consultant Cardiologist with more than two decades of experience in various aspects of invasive and non-invasive cardiology, with interest in heart failure and service development across the UK, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates. He completed his cardiology training in the North East of England, earning his Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training (CCST) in 2001, and subsequently served for 15 years as Consultant Cardiologist at the University Hospital of North Durham. He later held senior consultant roles in Riyadh before relocating to the UAE in 2018, where he established a comprehensive multidisciplinary Heart Failure service in Al Ain. This programme continued to expand through his leadership at Tawam Hospital and, since 2025, at Sheikh Tahnoon Medical City. In January 2026, the service achieved American Heart Association certification as the first Comprehensive Heart Failure Center in the MENA region.

He completed his Internal Medicine Residency followed by a Heart Failure and Transplant Fellowship at Yale University School of Medicine in 2003 and a Cardiovascular Fellowship at the University of Utah in 2006. At the University of Utah, he served as Medical Director of the Heart Failure Program and Director of the Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Fellowship, and earned a Master’s Degree in Clinical Investigation. From 2015 to 2025, Prof. Bader served at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, where he established the UAE’s first multidisciplinary advanced heart failure and heart transplant program. He later became Vice Chairman and Chairman of the Department of Cardiovascular Medicine. He holds an Executive MBA from the University of Oxford and is American Board-certified in multiple specialties. A prolific researcher, he has authored over 175 peer-reviewed publications and is a Fellow of leading international cardiology societies.

Professor Abdulla Shehab is a distinguished Emirati cardiologist, Professor of Cardiovascular Medicine at UAE University, and Consultant Interventional Cardiologist at Burjeel Royal and Mediclinic Hospitals. He is Editor-in-Chief of the New Emirates Medical Journal, Vice President of both the Gulf Intervention Society and Emirates Cardiac Society, and Chair of the International Society of Hypertension – MENA (ISH-MENA). He also leads the Hypertension Working Group of the Emirates Cardiac Society and chairs the Nicotine, Tobacco, Alcohol & Drugs (NTAD) initiative at the World Heart Federation. A graduate of the University of Dundee, he holds a PhD, MD, MMEd, and CCST, and is a fellow of leading global medical societies. With over 100 peer-reviewed publications and leadership of major Gulf-wide registries, Professor Shehab is widely recognized for advancing cardiovascular science, clinical practice, and education across the MENA region.

Dr Atallah is the Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs at Dubai Medical University. Prior to joining DMU he served as Cardiovascular Senior Pharmacotherapy Specialist at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi and Clinical Associate Professor at Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine. Prior to joining Cleveland Clinic he was on faculty as Assistant Professor of Clinical Pharmacy at King Saud bin Abdulaziz University for Health Sciences (KSAU-HS) in Riyadh. Dr. Atallah received his PharmD from Bernard J. Dunn School of Pharmacy in Virginia and completed an ASHP accredited post graduate residency at Winchester Medical Center in Virginia. He was awarded the “Graduate of the Last Decade” award by his alma mater. Dr. Atallah is board certified in pharmacotherapy with added qualifications in Cardiology. He also holds an advanced antithrombotic management certificate from ASHP. Dr Atallah is a fellow of the Heart Failure Society of America (HFSA) and the American College of Clinical Pharmacy (ACCP). He has several publications and presentations at national and international conferences. He was awarded the 2021 ACCP Cardiology PRN international award. His research interests are in various aspects of cardiovascular pharmacotherapy with focus on antithrombotic therapy, heart failure and hyperlipidemia.

Prior to joining Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, Dr. Ghalib was at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) Medical Centre, where he specialized in Cardiovascular Medicine, and Advanced Heart Failure Management. Dr. Ghalib received his medical degree from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, Baltimore, Maryland, USA. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Michigan Health System, Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA. He then served on faculty in the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Michigan Hospital for two years. Subsequently, he completed a Cardiovascular Medicine fellowship at UCLA Medical Centre, Los Angeles, California. Dr Ghalib resides in Abu Dhabi with his wife and two sons.

He is currently a reviewer for Frontiers in cardiology and the associate editor of the Egyptian Heart Journal.

Dr. Kumayl Al-Lawati is a Consultant in Heart Failure at the Royal Hospital, Oman, appointed in 2021. He has played a pivotal role in expanding the heart failure service from an outpatient-based model to a comprehensive inpatient and outpatient program. He also introduced the cardiac endomyocardial biopsy procedure to enhance the follow-up care of heart transplant patients and implemented advanced therapies for cardiomyopathies, including cardiac amyloidosis and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. Dr. Al-Lawati’s clinical expertise includes cardiac device therapy, such as cardiac resynchronization therapy, pacemakers, and implantable cardioverter defibrillators, as well as heart failure and cardiomyopathies. He is a former Head of the Heart Failure Service at the Royal Hospital and a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh (FRCPE). He also serves as faculty at the Oman Medical Specialty Board and contributes to fellowship examinations. Additionally, he is an active member of the Oman Heart Association, the National Heart Centre Research Committee, and the British Cardiovascular Society.

Dr. Tarig Omer, MD, serves as the Chair of the Critical Care Division and is a Staff Cardiothoracic and Neuro Intensivist at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi. He is a recognized leader in Interventional Critical Care and brings over 15 years of experience in academic medicine and advanced multidisciplinary ICU care. Dr. Omer completed his Internal Medicine residency at Wright State University, followed by a Critical Care Medicine Fellowship at St. Louis University–Mercy Hospital, and a Neurocritical Care Fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio. His areas of expertise include cardiothoracic, vascular, surgical, and neurocritical care, with a specialization in ECMO, echocardiography, VADs, transplant critical care, and interventional ICU procedures. Dr. Omer is also actively involved in postgraduate education, interdisciplinary training, and the development of critical care ultrasound and procedural protocols. He frequently serves as faculty at international conferences and courses, with academic interests in advanced ICU interventions, hemodynamics, mechanical circulatory support devices, and imaging-guided care.

He was previously a consultant at King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, with a strong focus on patient safety, ICU protocol development, and multidisciplinary care.
